According to the CDC during August 19, 2020–February 1, 2021, the percentage of adults with symptoms of an anxiety or a depressive disorder increased. Increases were largest among adults aged 18–29 years and among those with less than a high school education.
More Americans are meditating than ever before, as Mindfulness Meditation goes mainstream is a timely and the subject is newsworthy. Many people, families and individuals have been hit emotionally hard during the pandemic. Here are several popular types of meditation practice that Healthline recognizes. However, only seven are the focus in this article.
In an interview with Brian Buss, MS, Edu, he is the founder and therapist at Into Balance, Lincoln, Nebraska. Buss holds a Master’s in Education, Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) and he is a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher. He trained through the University of California San Diego School of Medicine’s Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute. He is the perfect person to talk with about Meditation since he practices it daily and runs a Meditation business. Buss shared that he used Mindfulness Mediation as a meditation technique and has found it to be very effective.

When asked what issues people are seeking to overcome when they come to see him. Buss said, “there has been an increase of people of all ages seeking help with depression, anxiety and even suicidal thoughts, stress and just unsureness.” Due to the Covid 19 pandemic many individual and families are struggling to deal with the acute lifestyle adjustments.
Most people may tend to believe that high ranking professionals have it all together. Buss, said “the majority of the people that come to see him are professionals, seeking help to deal with stress.” The Mindful Meditation sessions that Buss instructs are designed to help individuals build self-control over impulsive behaviors, creating a more balanced approach with their internal emotions.
Agape Spiritual Central has been around for thirty-four years. The center is strongly focused on meditation, as it begins each service there is thirty minutes of quite time. This time is set aside to create the space for group meditation. Dr. Coco Stewart has been at the center from the beginning and is one of the founders. She gives a welcomes message to individuals weekly after meditation. Dr. Coco Stewart said, “meditation is a lifestyle, it is a part of my daily life, meditation has sustained me throughout life.” She has witnessed the power of meditation in the lives of members at the center.
Stewart is a Master Teacher with Agape Spiritual Center and teaches life vision classes. Dr. Stewart also facilitate meditation on social media. Although there are several mediations out there, she feels that they all can work for the person doing them, if they focus and open their hearts.
The National Center for complementary and Integrative Health reveals an increase of meditation. The Pew Research Center reveal a study according to the Religious Landscape of meditation. The study shows that Christians, including 49% of evangelical Protestants, 40% of Catholics and 55% of members of the historically black Protestant tradition also say they meditate once a week or more. And 77% of Jehovah’s Witnesses say they meditate at least once per week. For all others that are not religious are identified as atheist or agnostic meditate 26%.
Clyde Turner, 83 years of age, is a member at College View Seven Day Adventist Church. Turner has spent his life as a fulltime time missionary to third world countries. Turner said, “prayer and meditation is used all over the world and especially is needed today.” Clyde has ministered to thousands of people and has facilitated prayer and meditation groups.
Although there are multiple meditations being used today, meditation has been around for thousands of years. The WebMd shares multiple meditations that are beneficial. Clyde uses mostly spiritual medication as he said, “spiritual meditation is meditating on God’s promises for your life”.
