Health Benefits of Youth Sports
It is known by research that kids that play sports are healthier and happier. Organized sports are very popular with parents, schools, and kids. It offers a sense of responsibility, accountability, and competitiveness during the developmental stages. It teaches comradery, team spirit, commitment, these are all tools that little Johnny or Jane can put in their life toolbox. Learning team sports can also help with the realization of winning and losing.
There are physical fitness benefits to organized sports in this era of youth obesity. Consuming the standard american diet can be detrimental to kids. With the fast-food culture and portions are oversized, causes kids to over eat. A commitment to play sports is a daily physical practice, this helps with cardiovascular.
Youth Coach Newby has 19 years of coaching, he believes it is important to be honest with parents about the development of their kids. He informs the parents of the benefits and vast opportunities of playing sports. He never leaves out that only 1% of student athletes get a scholarship and it’s not a piece of cake. While helping parents and students to understand the most important rule of playing sports, is to have fun. Although most parents are looking into the future for the scholarship to pay for college. This can sometimes cause parent to lose the enjoyment of the development of the student athlete.
There are several corporations that support youth sports. Organization such as USA Football provides equipment for teams that cannot afford to purchase what they need. Youth football players must have jersey, belts, and footballs to play the sport. Thank goodness to organization that understand the need for organized sports. Research shows a positive result in participating in sports.
It has been reported that kids in sports are more academically successful than those kids that do not participate. Athnet reports, children who play sports in high school are more likely to be academically successful. They are more likely to graduate high school and more likely to attend college and they go on and carry good skills into a professional career. There are Psychological Benefits in sports that can help kids reduce depression and anxieties. Kids are more confident and assured with themselves. Newby states, that organized sports does build confidence but to strengthen and sustain the confidence, the home environment will play a large part. Having family, school or a church’s support can determine a good athletic experience. When there is a lack of family, school, or support of any kind, it’s not so good.
It is important that a youth coach understands the impact he or she has on an athlete. They must be cognizant of their attitude and words in the presence of youth. Newby believes that a coach’s role is a teacher, mentor, coach, instructor and to lead by example. A good coach can recognize what each student athlete needs to be their best.
