During the pandemic, many businesses were forced to close their doors. Other businesses made hard changes to their business structure. The industry reported by USA Today that was hardest were retail, transportation, and travel. Many made changes to their menus or laid-off employees. Noyes Gallery is a retail business, it implemented other social media platforms to keep the artists and customers engaged.
Julia Noyes is the owner and founder of Noyes Art Gallery, a local art gallery in Lincoln NE. She bought the building where the gallery is now housed, over 30 years ago. Then, it was the old Haymarket Art Gallery. Today Noyes Art Gallery carries the work of 125 local artists.
Julia has been painting all her life and has always wanted to showcase her art. She not only wanted to showcase her work but the art of other artists. Julia’s vision was to create a community of artists that encourage each other, create and sell their art. This is exactly what the amazing space exudes. When you walk through the doors of Noyes you enter a beautiful world of art.
Julia has built that community of talented artists that display their creations of woodworks, jewelry, art, embroideries, unique sculptures of dragons, and much more. "I had to work every day during the pandemic," said Julia.
Although we are coming to the end of the Pandemic, NextBillion has been keeping up with the impact of the Pandemic and states “ the vaccine promises to gradually bring an end to this dark period, we anticipate that many industries, enterprises, and development organizations will move from responding to the immediate public health and economic crises, to a longer-term effort to build back better.” Nebraska Business Survey Reports states that 97.19% of the arts, entertainment, and recreation business have been affected negatively by the pandemic.
The gallery offers critiquing classes and workshops that assist the artist to continue to paint with fresh ideas and deliver new pieces for patrons. The gallery now has two shows a month, this is rare for an art gallery. The New Scientist has revealed new ways many museums and art galleries are using to excite their audiences by doing virtual tours. This is how businesses are bouncing back by being creative and fearless to try new methods.
We all know the benefits of looking at art and the positive effects it has on the brain. Art can be a form of rehabilitation and stress reliever in a time of uncertainty. Noyes Art gallery wants to make its art accessible for all. Noyes Art Gallery now has a curb view, the art is placed outside the gallery on the sidewalk. The patron can drive up, sit in the car or get a closer look at the art as it graces the community.
